Anatomy & Physiology For Asana Practice
Led by: Jim Donak

3 Sundays, 2:30 - 6:30 pm
October 19
November 2 & 16
12 hours total
Course Description:
Day one of our workshop series begins with a microscopic look at the body; histology, the study of tissues, and how different tissues respond to the various forms of mechanical stresses that occur in the body: compression, sheer, torque and stretch.
Day two zooms out to explore the anatomy of joint structures as well as neuromuscular concepts, the deeply integral relationship between the nervous and muscular systems, in order to understand active movement, coordination and more.
Day three provides practical skill development, useful for an asana practice, by integrating information from days one and two with an in-depth exploration of 4 different asanas that challenge the range of motion along four of the fascial lines of the body. We will also look at how mental approach to practice affects the physical structures and relationships covered earlier.
The value of looking at ‘muscles as individuals’ with a defined action versus looking at ‘communities of tissues’ that create vectors of functionality, will be a recurring theme for this series

$138 When Registered and Paid by September 1, 2014

$162 When Registered and Paid by October 19, 2014

“I thought this training was very extensive, with clear demonstrations and descriptions of ways to teach a prenatal class. It was very organized.”
“I feel as though I ‘got’ everything I could ask for: great pacing, excellent information. I especially enjoyed getting to practice the adjustments.”

Anatomy & Physiology For Therapeutics
Led by: Jim Donak

3 Sundays, 2:30 - 6:30 pm
January 11 & 25
February 8
12 hours total
Course Description:
Day one of this workshop series begins at the level of histology, the study of tissues, with a focus on the nature of injury and healing. We will take a microscopic look at what happens when injury occurs, when stress is applied to the body beyond its capacity to retain its structure. See the nature of growth and repair at the cellular level to understand scar tissue and other anomalies that practitioners may experience.
Day two and three zooms out to cover joints and their neighboring structures with a focus on common injuries, both acute and chronic. There is a strong practical element to the final two classes as we venture into basic screening skills to better determine the cause behind pain or disability and useful recommendations for healing.
