Teacher Training II

Registration is Always Open

FYTT II offers the greatest level of depth of all of the Barefoot Movement programs. It is an opportunity for yoga teachers to deepen their understanding, their practice, their teaching skills and their personal development in a profound way. It is specifically designed for those who have successfully completed a 200 hour teacher training program.

The student determines the intensity of the program by either, overlapping components to finish in the shortest amount of time, or taking breaks between components to increase the duration of the program and spread out the costs over more time.

Upon Completion:

Students receive a certificate from Barefoot Movement which may be submitted, by the student, to Yoga Alliance for registration at the RYT500 level (Registered Yoga Teacher, 500 hour level).
200-hour level I training + 300-hour level II training = 500 hours.

Program Content:

Four individual components make up the FYTT II program content:

The exact number of hours for each component can and will vary slightly from student to student, these numbers are meant to be guidelines, the total number of hours needs to add up to at least 300.

1) Workshops
Approximately 130 hours
Look for workshops that include “Course Credit” in their listing, they will state how many hours they will satisfy for FYTT II students. Workshops that offer FYTT II course credit are generally offered on alternating Sundays from 2:30 - 6:30.

2) Apprenticeship Program (AP)
Approximately 60 hours
The apprenticeship Program (AP) is led by Leah Gillman. Upcoming APs will be listed on this page and are offered every 18 months or so.

3) Deepening Your Asana Practice (DYAP) classes
Approximately 80 hours
DYAPs are series’ of asana classes, at least 2 hours long, with a consistent group of students. They are listed with the workshops and generally offered on Sundays from 11:30 - 1:30.

4) Specialized Focus
Approximately 30 hours

4a) 20 hours
Train in a specific area of your choosing that you propose for approval. Examples include: restorative yoga, yoga for trauma, or it could be on a special population. Some examples of Special Population groups are: prenatal (offered annually at Barefoot Movement), kids, at-risk youth, cancer patients, larger bodies, athletes and incarcerated adults. Your 20 hour training could be at Barefoot Movement or elsewhere.

4b) 10 hours
Teaching yoga in that specialized area. In addition, write an essay, article or letter (typed) describing your experience working with that specialized focus. Your writing could be as if you were addressing an incoming FYTT II student, relaying your experience to them, or if there’s another way you’d like to frame it, you may propose that for approval as well.

If your training(s) go slightly over or under the twenty hours allotted, then the teaching of that population may be adjusted accordingly.

More on the Specialized Focus: Yoga Alliance guidelines allows for 30 of the 300 hours of study to be ‘non-contact’ hours, meaning that they can take place outside of Barefoot Movement at another studio or as independent study. We allow for that in the Specialized Focus component. However, if you do your Specialized Focus at Barefoot Movement, you may choose to do adjust your program so that you acquire 30 hours of training elsewhere as long as it is taught at a more advanced level, be yoga-specically (not yoga-related) (needs to correlate with one or more of these Yoga Alliance determined categories: Techniques, Training and Practice, Teaching Methodology, Anatomy and Physiology, Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers, Practicum, needs to be consistent with the more advanced Level at which the Level II program is taught, and pre-approved by Leah. It may also be some kind of independent study, in which case a written proposal needs to be submitted for approval.
